Buy a 1863 Frankfurt Thaler Assembly Of Princes MS 63

A very attractive silver Thaler dated 1863, struck in the free city of Frankfurt in the year of the ‘Assembly of Princes’. The obverse depicts Frankfurt’s iconic medieval city hall - the Römer - with a legend around that reads ‘FURSTETAG ZU FRANKFURT AM MAIN IM AUGUST 1863’. The reverse features the crowned eagle (displayed) that appears on the city’s coat of arms. Reverse legend reads: ‘FREIE STADT FRANKFURT’ with ‘EIN GEDENKTHALER’ below. The edge reads ‘STARK IM RECHT’. The so-called ‘Assembly of Princes’ was convened in Frankfurt - then a Sovereign city-state - in 1863 by Franz Joseph of Austria who proposed reforms to the German Confederation. The King of Prussia, taking advice from Otto von Bismarck, boycotted the congress, making the Frankfurt meeting ultimately unsuccessful. Just 20,000 of these Thalers were issued and this one, in uncirculated condition, would make an excellent addition to any collection. It’s composed of 18.52 grams of .900 silver and has a diameter of 33.00 millimetres. Grade: independently graded MS 63 by NGC (ref: 6030947-005) and comes sealed in its holder.
