An 1842 silver Halfcrown of Queen Victoria. The obverse features the young head of the queen, her hair drawn back and bound with a double fillet. Type A5 (previously ESC A4). The engraver of this portrait was William Wyon though his initials do not appear on the truncation of Victoria’s neck. The reverse shows a crowned, quart-topped shield of arms within two laurel branches, tied at the base of the shield with a ribbon. Tiny national flowers are arranged below. Engraver: Jean Baptiste Merlen. In this year Victoria suffered two notable assassination attempts though she was the subject of several during her reign. Spink 3888.

This coin has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation as MS 63 (NGC Cert # 6029549-003).

A grade of MS 63 indicates a Mint State coin with an average or slightly weak strike. These pieces have moderate abrasions and hairlines of varying sizes.
