New coins in the series are released annually to coincide with the Lunar New Year. This 2024 24-carat gold coin marks the year of the dragon with a design by William Webb, inspired by Chinese sculpture, paintings and coins. Webb's dragon embodies the qualities of power and authority associated with this important Chinese cultural symbol. This is the first British Lunar coin to feature a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III since his accession to the throne. Struck in 7.80 grams of 999.9 gold, this Year of the Dragon coin is one of just 388 of its kind issued by The Royal Mint and comes in the original red gift box with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
