Commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day with this fractional gold proof coin from The Royal Mint. On 6 June 1944, Allied troops executed the largest seaborne invasion in history, landing on the beaches of Normandy under heavy fire. Codenamed D-Day, the operation marked the start of the liberation of France and paved the way for Allied victory in Western Europe that would bring World War Two to an end. This collectable coin is a tribute to a pivotal moment in history, released by The Royal Mint in collaboration with the Imperial War Museums to mark eighty years since the landings. Struck in 24-carat gold, it features an evocative design created by artist David Lawrence, showing troops wading ashore from their landing crafts. Just 500 of these tenth-ounce gold-proof D-Day coins have been authorised for release, each supplied in a protective presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
