Jody Clark's definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of this Two Pound coin, together with an inscription which reads 'ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 2 POUNDS ·'.
The reverse of this UK coin was designed by brothers Richard and Neil Talbot and shows a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II in flight with the words 'RAF 1918-2018' above and 'LIGHTNING II' below. Speaking about their design, the brothers said:
'The designs and engineering of all of these aircraft are so impressive, it was important to us to be true to the nature of these aircraft - they are extraordinary designs in their own right.'
This premium £2 coin is the same size as its circulating counterparts but is struck in 15.97 grams of solid 22-carat gold to an attractive proof finish. A bimetallic appearance is achieved with a combination of yellow and red gold.
The pre-owned collectable is part of the RAF Centenary collection from The Royal Mint, celebrating 100 years since the Royal Air Force was founded. One of just 1,000 coins issued in this limited edition design, it comes with the original presentation case and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
