2015 Gold Sovereign Elizabeth II Coin Struck On The Day 22 July Prince George's 2nd Birthday
Struck On The Day Sovereigns
Since 2012, The Royal Mint has produced a range of collectors' coins, struck on the day of important national events and anniversaries. These coins are often produced in very limited numbers and are highly sought-after by collectors.
Prince George's 2nd Birthday
Prince George celebrated his second birthday on 22 July 2015. The young royal, who was born in 2013, is the second child of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Currently, he is second in line to the throne, following his father.
Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II
This is one of the first Sovereigns to feature Jody Clark's official coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, introduced this year, together with an inscription that reads 'ELIZABETH II · DEI · GRA REGINA FID DEF'.
Saint George And The Dragon
The reverse shows Benedetto Pistrucci's Saint George and the dragon design, a perennial presence on gold Sovereigns struck over the last two centuries and an appropriate choice for the young Prince. The date (2015) is shown below.
22-Carat Gold UK Coin
Like all British 'full' Sovereigns, this 2015 coin is struck in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold. This issue also boasts a brilliant uncirculated finish typical of 'struck on the day' coins.
Low Mintage Gold Sovereign
This pre-owned coin is one of just 400 of its kind, struck on 22 July 2015 at The Royal Mint. That makes it the joint rarest 'struck on the day' Sovereign (sharing the honour with the Prince George 1st Birthday Sovereign) and one of the rarest modern gold Sovereigns ever issued.
Hand-Signed Certificate
We'll supply your Prince George 2nd Birthday Sovereign in the original white presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Paul Davies, Head of Production for commemorative coins at The Royal Mint.
