The reverse was inspired by the iconic 'Your Country Needs You' First World War recruitment poster featuring Field Marshall Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener, with the words 'THE FIRST WORLD WAR 1914-1918' above. The design was adapted for coinage by John Bergdahl.

The Lamps Are Going Out

The edge of this coin features the words 'THE LAMPS ARE GOING OUT ALL OVER EUROPE' - a quote attributed to British Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey on the eve of World War One.

22-Carat Gold Two Pound 

This 2014 coin is the same shape and size as circulating Lord Kitchener £2s but is struck to proof standard in 15.98 grams of 22-carat gold with red and yellow gold alloys producing a bi-metallic appearance.
