Buy a 2013 London Underground £2 Gold Proof Set

Low mintage gold proof 2013 London Underground £2 coin set from The Royal Mint. Just 111 of these Two Pound sets to mark the 150th anniversary of London's tube system, which was opened in 1863 as the world's first underground passenger railway. The two coins in this set are each struck in 15.98 grams of solid 22-carat gold, with a bi-metallic proof appearance. The first, designed by Edwina Ellis, shows the London Underground roundel logo, while the second, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, shows a tube train in a tunnel. All three artists signed the numbered certificate of authenticity included with these premium £2 sets, which are a key acquisition for collectors of British gold proof coins.

London Underground Gold Proof Set

This premium collectors set from 2013 includes two gold proof Two Pound coins issued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the London Underground:

  • 2013 Roundel £2 Gold Proof
  • 2013 Tube Train £2 Gold Proof

Roundel Underground Logo £2

The Roundel £2 is struck in 15.98 grams of 22-carat gold with a proof finish and features Edwina Ellis' logo design with the anniversary dates - 1863 and 2013 - above and below, and 'MIND THE GAP' on the edge.

Tube Train Design Gold Proof Coin

The Tube Train £2 coin features a reverse by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby with 'LONDON UNDERGROUND' above and a design inspired by the tube network map on the edge. Both obverses show Queen Elizabeth II.

Low Mintage Royal Mint Set

The maximum number of coin sets offered in this limited edition presentation was set by The Royal Mint at 150, but it appears that only 111 were actually issued, making pre-owned examples in good condition hard to find.

Sogned Certificate Of Authenticity

This pre-owned 2013 London Underground gold proof set is supplied in the original Royal Mint presentation case, complete with a numbered certificate of authenticity, signed by all three designers: Edwina Ellis, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.
