Born on 22 July 2013, Prince George is the first son of Prince William and his wife, Catherine and is the eldest grandchild of King Charles III, putting George directly in line to the British throne. His christening, held on 23 October at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, was celebrated with a select range of Royal Mint commemorative coins, including this gold proof edition. This collectable pre-owned £5 features a decorative design inspired by the Lily Font, created by veteran coinage artist John Bergdahl. This design is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Prince George's great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Prince George takes his name from Elizabeth's own father, who reigned as King George VI. When he becomes King, the young Prince will be known as George VII.
