The obverse of this coin features Ian Rank-Broadley's definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, together with a legend reading 'ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRA REGINA · FID · DEF'.
2009 Gold Half Sovereign Reverse
A slightly different reverse design was used on 2009 proof Half Sovereigns with the classic Saint George motif modified back to the pattern used in 1893 which features a shorter groundline. Though the design is attributed to Benedetto Pistrucci, his initials do not appear to the right of the date on this issue.

Half Sovereigns are minted to a historic specification in 3.99 grams of 22-carat gold, equating to an actual gold weight of 0.1177 troy ounces. This proof example measures 19.30 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge.
Mintage Numbers For 2009 Half Sovereigns
