2009 Kew Gardens Fifty Pence Gold Proof Coin
The Prized Kew Gardens 50p
This UK 50p was issued to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Collectors go crazy for the design because the currency issue was, for many years, the rarest UK circulating coin, making all formats of the coin very desirable.
Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II
The obverse of the Kew Gardens coin shows Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, paired with an inscription which reads 'ELIZABETH · II D · G · REG · F · D ·' with 'FIFTY PENCE' below.
Chinese Pagoda Reverse
Christopher Le Brun designed the now-famous reverse of the Kew Gardens 50p. His work depicts the Chinese Pagoda at Kew Gardens with a winding vine encircling the tower. The anniversary dates - 1759 and 2009 - are shown on either side with 'Kew' in small curling letters at the base.
22-Carat Gold 2009 Coin
This coin is the same size and shape as a currency 50p, but it's struck in 15.50 grams of solid 22-carat gold with a premium proof finish, meaning the fine details of this popular design can be fully appreciated.
Limited Edition Royal Mint Release
The Royal Mint authorised the release of 1,000 of these gold proof Kew Gardens coins, but records suggest that just 629 were actually issued, making this a scarce issue. Our pre-owned examples are supplied in the original presentation case, complete with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
