The Royal Mint celebrated the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 Coronation with a distinctive commemorative coin, designed by Tom Philips. The 2003 Coronation Jubilee was an important moment in royal history and one achieved by few reigning monarchs. Philip's coin is a striking tribute to Her Majesty, who is depicted in a minimalist line drawing on the obverse: a portrait used only on this issue. The reverse features a strident inscription that reads 'GOD SAVE THE QUEEN'. This 22-carat gold proof edition is the scarcest piece in this 50th Anniversary issue, with just 1,896 examples struck. Our pre-owned examples are supplied in the original presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.

Profile Portrait 2003 £5 Obverse

Tom Philips designed the one-off obverse for this 2003 UK coin, which shows a linear, right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with an inscription around the edge that reads 'ELIZABETH II · DEI GRATIA REGINA · F · D ·'.

God Save The Queen Reverse

The reverse, also designed by Tom Philips, mirrors the bold appearance of the obverse. In the centre, the words 'GOD SAVE THE QUEEN' are surrounded by an inscription that reads 'CORONATION JUBILEE · FIVE POUNDS · 2003 ·'.

Struck In 22-Carat Gold

This 2003 Five Pound coin is struck in 39.94 grams of solid 22-carat gold with a fine proof finish. The frosted and mirrored areas are highly contrasted, and the piece measures precisely 38.61 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge.

Collectable Royal Mint Coin

The Royal Mint authorised the release of 2,750 gold proof Coronation Jubilee coins in 2003, but records show that the actual mintage amounted to 1,896 coins. This pre-owned example comes in the original Royal Mint case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
