This Royal Mint set celebrates Queen Elizabeth II's 75th birthday with two commemorative £25 coins:
The Alderney coin features Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of Her Majesty on the obverse, paired with a unique bust created by David Cornell, depicting the Queen wearing a smart suit with a wreath of national flowers.
The Bailiwick of Guernsey coin shows Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse, while the reverse shows Christine Ellingham's three-quarters facing bust, encircled by flowers with '25 POUNDS' below.
Both of the coins in the set are denominated at Twenty-Five Pounds and struck in exactly 7.81 grams of solid .999 (24-carat) gold. Similar in size to a UK Sovereign, these coins measure 22 millimetres and boast a proof finish.
The Royal Mint authorised the release of just 250 of these two-coin Alderney and Guernsey gold proof sets in 2001, with further coins released in an individual presentation. This pre-owned example comes with a box and certificate.
