NGC graded gold Rhodesian 10 Shilling coin, dated 1966. This 22-carat gold coin would originally have been part of a three piece set, produced by the South African Mint for the new Rhodesian national bank, not long after the white separatist minority government had declared independence in November 1965. Following a 15-year guerrilla war, Rhodesia would emerge as the Republic of Zimbabwe in 1980. Only 5,000 of these proof 10s gold coins were issued in 1966. They have the same specifications as a British gold Half Sovereign, composed of 3.99 grams of 916.7 gold, equating to an actual gold weight of 0.1176 troy ounces. This example has been graded PF 65 by the Numismatic Guaranty Company and is offered sealed in its holder with a standard brown label.
