90% gold Russian ten Ruble coin, struck in St Petersburg in 1899. Obverse: portrait of the emperor Nicholas II, facing left. Script around: 'Б.М.НИКОЛАЙ II ИМПЕРАТОРЬ И САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ ВСЕРОСС'. Translation: By the Grace of God Nikolai II Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia'. The last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, ruled from 1894 until his abdication in 1917, just over a year before his execution. The reverse shows the crowned, double-headed eagle of the Imperial coat of arms with crown above holding orb and sceptre. Text reads: '10 РУБЛЕЙ 1899 Г' listing denomination and date. 5 and 10 Rouble coins were introduced in 1886, lasting until the production of Russian gold coinage was suspended in 1911. The edge is inscribed '1 ЗОЛОТНИК 78.24 ДОЛИ ЧИСТОГО ЗОЛОТА', identifying the 90% purity of these coins and the initials of the mint master. Weight: 8.60 grams.
