Russian gold five Rubles coin, struck in St Petersburg in 1898. Obverse: portrait of the emperor Nicholas II, facing left. Script around: 'Б.М.НИКОЛАЙ II ИМПЕРАТОРЪ И САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ ВСЕРОСС'. The last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, ruled from 1894 until his abdication in 1917, just over a year before his execution. The reverse shows the crowned, double-headed eagle of the Imperial coat of arms with crown above holding orb and sceptre. Text reads: '5 РУБЛЕЙ 1898 Г' listing denomination and date. 5 and 10 Rouble coins were introduced in 1886, lasting until the production of Russian gold coinage was suspended in 1911.
