A collectable gold full Sovereign of Queen Victoria, dated 1887. The obverse features the crowned ‘Jubilee Head’ of Victoria, facing left. The small ‘J.E.B.’ initials, found on the Queen’s shoulder, stand for Joseph Edgar Boehm. Minute variations in the initials and the legend lettering are catalogued in further detail with ‘DISH’ references for the ‘David Iverson Steve Hill’ comprehensive collection. This sovereign, ref: DISH.M7, is rated as Scarce. The reverse shows the famous Saint George on horseback armed with a sword slaying a dragon underfoot, the date (1887) below and small initials (‘B.P.’) for the engraver: Benedetto Pistrucci. A tiny ‘M’ above the date indicates that this sovereign was minted in Melbourne. This sovereign exceeds the bullion value with its age, condition and scarcity making an excellent addition to any numismatic collection or gold investment portfolio.
