A United States of America gold $20 or Double Eagle dated 1883 with the small letter ’S’ on the reverse, representing San Francisco mint. The obverse features the iconic and recognisable ‘Liberty Head’ surrounded by thirteen stars, representing the 13 original states that had been British colonies. The reverse shows the heraldic eagle with the denomination below. Both sides were designed by Mint of the United States Chief Engraver James B Longacre. With a 34 mm diameter and weighing in at 33.43 grams in of .900 gold, this coin is among largest US gold coins ever issued. The 1883 Double Eagle makes a sensible gold investment that will be enjoyed and admired in any collection.

Reverse

Heraldic Eagle, holding a double ribbon on which 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' is inscribed. Above, 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,' below 'TWENTY DOLLARS'. Small 'S' above denomination indicated the piece was minted in San Francisco.
