from
£425.00
A collectable gold full Sovereign of Queen Victoria, dated 1872. The obverse features the young head of A2 type in which the Queen faces left with her hair bound with a double fillet. A small ‘WW’ on the truncation of Victoria’s neck identifies the engraver as William Wyon. The reverse shows a crowned shield of arms, quartered, representing England, Scotland and Ireland. Laurel branches, tied with a ribbon, surround the shield and, below them, tiny national flower emblems: a thistle, a rose and a shamrock. This design is the work of Jean Baptiste Merlen. Die number, above flowers: 94. This sovereign exceeds the bullion value with its age and condition making it an excellent addition to any numismatic collection or gold investment portfolio.
