£895.00
A collectable gold full Guinea of King George the Second, dated 1759. The obverse features the older type laureate head of George II, facing left. The reverse shows an ornate crowned quartered shield of arms, bearing the arms of England and Scotland (united since 1707), France, Hanover and Ireland. George II was the second British monarch of the House of Hanover. This type of Guinea reverse was introduced during his reign to discourage Shillings from being gilded to pass as Guineas. 1759 was the year before George II’s death at the age of 77, at which point he was the longest-lived British monarch. Chevron or arrowhead milled edge: distinct from earlier diagonal milling in use prior to 1739.
