1701 William III Gold Full Guinea

1701 William III Guinea Reverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A scarce and sought-after full gold Guinea of Queen Anne, dated 1707 but pre-union with Scotland. The obverse features the first draped bust of Anne, facing left, by designed by Godfrey Kneller, cut by John Croker. The reverse, of the pre-Act of Union type, shows crowned cruciform shields of arms (representing Scotland, France, Ireland and England) around a central Tudor-style rose. Sceptres occupy the angles, terminating in tiny but identifiable symbols: an orb, a thistle, a Fleur-de-lis and a harp. It’s the shield bearing the three lions of England, immediately beneath the year, that distinguishes this Queen Anne Guinea as predating the union, though it was minted in the year that the Act was passed.
