A collectable gold full Guinea of King William the Third dated 1701 the final year of his reign. The obverse features the second laureate bust of William III facing right. The reverse shows the narrow-crowned shields, representing England, France and Ireland and sceptres in the angles with their terminals ending in an orb, a thistle, a Fleur-de-lis and a harp. The central symbol is the lion of Nassau, representing William’s House: that of Orange-Nassau. If we include the central reverse motif, William III Guineas bear five shields, whereas those of previous and later monarchs bear four.
