Buy a 1480-1483 Edward IV Hammered Gold Angel Heraldic Cinquefoil Mintmark

from
£2,175.00
A collectable gold hammered Angel of King Edward the Fourth with a clear Heraldic Cinquefoil mint mark to both sides. The mark indicates that this coin was struck at the Tower Hill mint in London between the years 1480 and 1483. The obverse features the image of the Archangel Saint Micheal slaying a dragon. The Saint’s spear and halo breaks through the beaded ring that encircles the motif. The reverse shows a ship at sea, surmounted by a quartered shield bearing Edward’s arms. A cross shaped mask rises above the shield, dividing an ‘E’ (left) and a rose (right). Edward IV introduced the Angel and this example dates from the latter years of his second reign (1471-1483). These gold Angels are ever popular with collectors and investors with prices trending upwards.
