The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank commissioned the UK's Royal Mint to produce the coins included in this 1986 edition. It captures an historic snapshot of the region's coinage, presented in a collectable display. The larger coins feature a depiction of Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hind, a key vessel in the islands' history.

These brilliant uncirculated coins are struck in cupronickel or aluminium, with the notable exception of the aluminium-bronze $1, which, by the 1990s, was struck in only cupronickel. The coins feature a mix of scalloped, round, and square edges, providing a range of visual interest.
