2000 Welsh Dragon One Pound Circulated Coin

Collectable Welsh Dragon 2000 UK One Pound coins, featuring a dragon passant on the reverse, designed by Norman Sillman.

One Pound coins were not released into general circulation by The Royal Mint in 1998 or 1999, making these 2000-dated coins the first circulating £1s to feature Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The dragon design was first used on UK 1995 £1 coins.

• The edge reads 'PLEIDIOL WYF I'M GWLAD', translating from Welsh to 'True am I to my country'
• 109,496,500 of these round, nickel-brass One Pounds were issued by the Mint in 2000
• These old, round £1 coins were struck for circulation but have since been withdrawn
