1998 Lernaean Hydra Two Pound Circulated Labours Of Hercules Gibraltar Coin

The Lernean Hydra 1999 Gibraltar Two Pound coin - part of the popular Labours of Hercules series, originally issued between 1998 and 2000.

These coins show Hercules facing his second labour: the Lernean Hydra. This monstrous water serpent, dwelling in the swamps of Lerna, regrew two heads for every one severed. Hercules called on his nephew Iolaus to sear each stump with a torch, preventing regrowth, to defeat the beast.
