1990 Welsh Leek One Pound Circulated Coin

Collectable Welsh Leek 1990 UK One Pound coin, featuring a leek encircled by a royal diadem on the reverse, designed by Leslie Durbin.

This is the second use of the Welsh Leek design on a coin from The Royal Mint: the motif was also used on 1985 £1s. This classic reverse is matched with Raphael David Maklouf's third definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

• The edge reads 'PLEIDIOL WYF I'M GWLAD', translating from Welsh to 'True am I to my country'
• The Royal Mint struck 97,269,302 of these Welsh Leek £1 coins for circulation in 1990
• These nickel-brass coins were intended as currency but have since been withdrawn
