1989 Scottish Thistle One Pound Circulated Coin

1989 UK One Pound coins featuring a classic Scottish Thistle and royal diadem design, created by silversmith Leslie Durbin.

This is the second use of the Scottish Thistle design by The Royal Mint on the £1 coin (it was first used for 1984 £1s). Leslie Durbin's design is paired with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by sculptor Raphael David Maklouf.

• The edge reads 'NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT', meaning 'No one attacks me with impunity'
• 70,580,501 of these round One Pound coins were issued by The Royal Mint in 1989
• These coins were struck for circulation in nickel-brass but have since been withdrawn
