Buy a 1989 Manx Blimp £2

Rare Manx Two Pound coin from 1989 with recalled blimp design. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the surrounding legend bearing four Manx triskelion stops. The reverse shows a Manx Airlines dirigible, surrounded by cloud clusters, flying over the Isle of Man. Manx Airlines was an English-owned company, that operated in the Isle of Man between 1982 and 2002. The design was issued to celebrate a proposed dirigible service between the Crown Dependency and the UK mainland. When the scheme failed, the coin was recalled by the Manx government. It is said that less than 300 of these 1989-dated £2s remain in circulation, perhaps less. This rare modern circulating coin was produced by the Pobjoy Mint, a private mint who struck coins for the Isle of Man for decades. The 'AA' die mark on the reverse and the 'PM' initials on the obverse are Pobjoy calling cards. This coin is made of The Pobjoy Mint's Virenium® alloy and has a face value of Two Manx Pounds. It was issued for circulation and has wear typical of limited used. The photos on this page show the actual coin you will receive.
