This BU set includes seven coins of the Hong Kong dollar, all dated 1988.
The first coinage to bear the words 'Hong Kong' was issued in 1863. Later in the same decade, a short-lived branch of the Royal Mint opened in Hong Kong. In 1935, the Hong Kong dollar was adopted as the standard currency.
The seven coins in this set all feature Raphael Maklouf's definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with an English inscription that reads 'QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND'.
In 1988, Hong Kong was a dependent territory of the United Kingdom, and like many of today's British Overseas Territories, its currency was produced by The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, South Wales.
This pre-owned 1988 set is supplied in the original presentation folder, packed with details about the coins and Hong Kong's history in both English and Chinese. The eight coins are protected by built-in protective capsules.
