Gold Indian Head Half Eagle Obverse
Indian Head Five Dollar coins get their name from the left-facing portrait of a Native American man wearing a feathered headdress that is used on the obverse. The word 'LIBERTY' appears above with the thirteen stars around and the date below. This iconic portrait was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, whose initials appear above the date.
Reverse Of The American Indian Head $5
Bela Lyon Pratt also designed the reverse of the Indian Head $5 which features an eagle standing on an arrow, an olive branch clutched in its left talon. The words 'UNITED STATES · OF · AMERICA' are shown above with 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' to the left and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' to the right with the denomination - 'FIVE · DOLLARS' - below.

American gold Half Eagles weigh 8.36 grams and are struck in .900 gold and .100 copper, offering .24187 troy ounce of fine gold. These coins measure 21.6 millimetres in diameter and were originally denominated at $5.
Indian Head Five Dollar Mint Marks
Indian Head Five Dollars were struck at the Denver, New Orleans, San Francisco and Philadelphia branches of the United States Mint. Philadelphia Half Eagles do not display a mintmark but coins struck at other branch mints feature a tiny letter mark to the left of the arrow on which the eagle is standing.
