A 2003 African Wildlife Elephant coin - last in the series issued for Zambia. From 2004, this series, struck by the Bavarian State Mint, was issued for the Somali Republic. This final Zambian edition shows a pair of majestic elephants on the reverse, one of which reaches its trunk up into a nearby tree. On the obverse of this 2003 1oz Elephant, a coinage portrait of Elizabeth II appears alongside the 5,000 Kwacha denomination. This is one of the only examples in the series to bear a portrait of Her Majesty. In total, one troy ounce of pure silver is included in the composition of each 2003 Elephant coin. 2003 Zambia Elephant Obverse

This 2003 African Wildlife coin is the final to bear Elizabeth II's portrait on the obverse, which here splits the mintage year. The above inscription  'BANK OF ZAMBIA' is complemented by the face value of '5000 [Zambia Arms] KWACHA'.

Reverse: 2003 1oz Elephant

The reverse of the 2003 Zambia Elephant, unique to this collectable year, shows a pair of adult elephants, one of which reaches into the canopy with its outstretched trunk. The legend which frames this natural scene reads as follows: '· ELEPHANT · AFRICAN WILDLIFE · 1oz Ag 999 ·'.

1oz Zambia Bullion Coin

The Bavarian State Mint struck this 2003-dated, 5,000 Kwacha coin in 31.21 grams of .999 silver alloy. The result is that this Zambian coin is composed with one troy ounce (31.10 grams) of pure silver content. It measures 38.60 millimetres in diameter.
