Buy a 1973 UK Proof Annual 6 Coin Set

The year 1973 saw the marriage of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips as well as the release of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and the release of the Six coin UK Royal Mint proof annual set. It included the first ever commemorative Fifty Pence piece. Featuring a reverse designed by David Wynne, it celebrates the UK’s entry into the European Economic Community with a symbolic motif showing nine hands clasping one another, representing the nine states that were then members of the now defunct organisation. This was the first in a long line of variant designs used for this denomination. Also included in this set: a Ten Pence piece, an original, larger Five Pence piece, a Two Pence piece, a One Pence piece and a Halfpenny, all dated 1973. Each of these coins is struck to proof standard with hand prepared dies for a high-detail finish and feature Arnold Machin’s official portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse. Each of the six coins is struck in the same base metal alloy as contemporary circulating coinage. These 1973 proof sets were issued in a red card envelope case with metallic lettering to the front. The coins themselves are contained in a clear plastic slab which enables you to see both obverse and reverse of each coin without handling each individual piece. Please be aware that the coins in these older proof sets may display toning which is typical of these issues.
