A collectable hammered silver Penny of King Edward the First of class 10cf1. Struck as part of Edward’s recoinage which began in 1279. This type is identified by the central point of the crown which is square in shape, akin to a battle axe and the curly, serpentine ‘S’. The obverse features the typical crowned, forward-facing bust of Edward I, with an unusual triangular central pellet to the king’s forehead The reverse shows the long cross with three pellets in each quarter, the legend indicating that this piece was struck at the mint of London.
