This 2011 Triathlon Olympic 50p is available now from The Britannia Coin Company. The design of the coin is from a set of twenty-nine chosen by the Royal Mint from a public competition and is in commemoration of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The Triathlon design was submitted to the competition by Sarah Harvey. She came across the competition via a work email which she saw after coming back from maternity leave and chose the triathlon as she was fascinated by the sport. Team GB and Switzerland took a gold each at the 2012 London Olympics. The reverse of this coin holds the winning design submitted by Sarah Harvey. It consists of three athlete silhouettes in a row: a runner to the left, a cyclist in the idle, and a swimmer on the right. They are connected by an evolving set of lines that form a road, a cyclist track, then swimming lines respectively. On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The 2011 Triathlon 50ps are minted in cupronickel alloy to standard Fifty Pence piece specifications (weight: 8.00 grams, diameter: 27.30 millimetres). 1,163,500 of these coins entered circulation. The photograph for this listing is a stock image, and coin you will receive will be in comparable condition and as it was circulated will be much like the coins you find in your change.
