1985 UK Brilliant Uncirculated Annual 7 Coin Set

This Nickel-Brass, Cupro-Nickel and Bronze Uncirculated coin set, was released to commemorate the coins of 1985 from The Royal Mint. This 1985 collection is of particular significance due to the introduction of the Welsh £1 coin depicting the ‘Leek’ emblem with the edge inscription, Pleidiol Wyf I’m Gwlad (True am I to my country). This design is the third release after 1983’s original pound and 1984’s Scottish pound with a future design planned for England and Northern Ireland. The pound coin would eventually replace the popularity of the pound note over several decades. This now 7-piece annual set, following the removal of the halfpenny, celebrates 1985 and hosts the new 3rd Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf, FRSA, replacing the 2nd portrait by Arnold Machin, RA, FRSA.
1985 saw a very charitable year in the Live Aid concert in July and the first Comic Relief on Christmas Day. Chart Toppers included The Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms album and Jennifer Rush's "The Power of Love" single, 18 million people watched the World Snooker Final, and Eastenders broadcast its first episode. This Royal Mint 1985 collection marks an extraordinary year for coinage and current affairs, and now you can purchase a piece of this historical year.
Struck at a higher standard than circulating or bullion coins and handled carefully to avoid any damage, Brilliant Uncirculated coins, although not as high value as Proof coins, are ideal for an entry-level collector or to mark an important milestone. This 1985 annual set features all 7 coins, which were in circulation during the course of a very special year.
