Buy a 1682/1 Charles II Crown 2 Over 1 Overdate

from
£345.00
A collectable silver Crown of king Charles the Second dated 1682/1, this example showing an overdate where a 2 appears over the previous years 1 on the reverse. The obverse shows the fourth laureate, draped bust of the king, facing right. The reverse shows crowned cruciform shields around a central Garter Star, the shields representing England, Scotland, Ireland and France. Interlinked Cs appear in the angles of the shields. The raised Latin edge lettering indicates the regnal year: ‘TRICESIMO QVARTO’. Charles’ regnal years are counted from his father’s execution in 1649 rather than 1660 when he was restored to the throne. By this point in his reign Charles was ruling without Parliament, just like Charles I. A nice addition to any early milled collection. Weight: 29.56 grams, diameter: 39.5 millimetres. Grade: NVF - A light and even grey tone with good general eye appeal, edge lettering 'TVTAMEN ANNO’ slightly skewed otherwise no real issues for near Very Fine. S 3359.
