A hammered silver Penny of king Edward the First struck in Ireland at the Dublin mint during the years 1279 to 1302. Known as the second coinage period, early issues, the obverse features the crowned facing bust of the king Edward the First within an inverted triangle instantly recognisable as one of the Irish issues. Edward I was lord of Ireland in 1254 and became king of England and Ireland at the same time in 1272. The reverse shows typically the long cross with pellets and the wording for the Dublin mint.
