Commonwealth hammered silver Penny. Obverse: shield with the cross of St George, surrounded by branches of laurel and palm, representing the peace brought by Civil War. Beaded border. Reverse: conjoined shields of arms, cross of St George to the left for England and the Irish harp to the right. ‘·I·’ above for the value. Design enclosed within a beaded border, no legends. The same design was utilised on Pennies minted between 1649 and 1660. Weight: 0.48 grams. Diameter: 13.2 millimetres. Grade: VF - Attractive even light tone on a good circular flan with clear details: Very Fine or nearly so. S 3222, ESC 228.
