Hammered gold Half Laurel of James I, struck in 1624 during his third and final coinage (1619-1625) - the only period in which these gold coins were struck. The obverse features the fourth bust with small ties securing the laurels on the king’s head. An ‘X’ appears the behind the portrait, indicating the value: ten Shillings. The shield is quartered by a cross which extends to the edges of the coin and terminates in lis. The legend around, divided by the cross, reads ‘HENRIC | .9 ROSAS | REGNA | IACOBS .9’. A trefoil appears after ‘REGINA’. This coin is composed of 4.4 grams of 22 carat gold and has an approximate diameter of 27.9 millimetres. Grade: GVF - Good sized flan with minor historic crease to obverse and indent on shoulder. Reverse weak to lower shield but otherwise good Very Fine. Spink 2651a.
