1373-1382 Louis I Hammered Silver Denier Hungary Poland

1373-1382 Louis I Hammered Silver Denier Hungary Poland Obverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A collectable and high grade hammered silver Denier of king Louis the First, struck in Poland between the years 1373 to 1382. The obverse features a stylised head with possible African features wearing a cap facing left and the wording translated as ‘Money of Lajos’. The reverse shows a tall double cross with the wording translated as ‘King of Hungary’. Louis I, known as Louis the Great was king of Hungary and Croatia from 1342 and king of Poland from 1370 until his death in 1382. This coin although fairly common on the market has strong eye appeal. According to one member of our team, if you turn this at the right angle it looks like a frog. He stresses that this is ‘just my odd opinion and not a numismatic one’. We’ll get him the help he needs.
