A collectable silver Grosso struck in Venice, Italy between the years 1312 to 1328 under Giovanni Soranzo. The obverse features the Doge (sometimes translated as Duke) standing, facing receiving a banner from Saint Mark: Venice’s patron saint. The reverse shows a forward-facing throned figure of Jesus Christ Pantocrator (or Christ in Majesty or Christ in Glory). Giovanni Soranzo was the 51st Doge of Venice, the major maritime and financial power hub of Italy. This attractive late-medieval coin would be an interesting addition to any collection.
