1173 Raymond III Hammered Copper Pougeoise Tripoli Crusader

1173 Raymond III Hammered Copper Pougeoise Tripoli Crusader Obverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A rare and collectable Copper Pougeoise, sometimes known as a copper Star Denier, minted at Tripoli around 1173, under Raymond the Third, Count of Tripoli. The obverse features an eight-pointed star with dots in the angles above a crescent and the wording for the county of Tripoli. The reverse shows a simplistic but attractive design of a cross terminating in three annulets with four daggers or swords in the angles, pointing towards the centre. Raymond III was among the most important figures in the Crusader states, ruling as Count of Tripoli from 1152 to his death in 1187. This very rare coin in good condition for copper of this age makes an excellent numismatic and historic addition to any collection.
