Half Argentinos are a very rare Argentinian coin, struck in .900 gold in 1881 and 1884 at the Casa de Moneda de la República Argentina, in Buenos Aires. These coins weigh just over 4.03 grams, and measure 19.3 millimetres in diameter.
This Argentinian coin was designed by French sculptor and medallist Eugène André Oudiné (1810-1887), whose 'OUDINE' signature can be seen to the lower right of the bust on the obverse. Oudiné's work can be seen on a range of 19th-century French and Argentinian coins, including the 1 Argentino which closely replicates the design of the fractional coin.
Reportedly, the mintage for Half Argentinos between the supremely scarce 1881-dated coin (just nine issued) and the 1884 coin is 430 pieces, suggesting that only 421 1884 1/2 Argentinos were ever stuck
This Argentinian coin has been graded MS62 by the Professional Coin Grading Service (#16517.62/51861638) and is offered sealed in its holder.
