Brilliant uncirculated 2019 gold Sovereign with a matt finish. This was the first year that The Royal Mint used a matt finish for their BU Sovereigns, creating a subtle, low-shine appearance, distinct from their bullion and proof counterparts but no less attractive. The new finish allows collectors to enjoy two classic coinage designs in their full glory: Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and Benedetto Pistrucci's Saint George and the dragon motif. The Royal Mint set an issue limit for 2019 BU Sovereigns of 20,000 but it appears that many fewer were actually issued, with Spink recording a mintage of just 1,514 for this year. That makes these 2019 coins notably scarce among modern collectable Sovereigns.
