The obverse of this coin features Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, together with an inscription reading 'ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRA REGINA · FID · DEF'.
The reverse of this Half Sovereign features a riff on the classic Saint George design, reinterpreted by sculptor Paul Day to show the winged dragon curling around the surface of the coin, the date (2012) under its belly.
Half Sovereigns are struck to a historic specification in 3.99 grams of 22-carat gold. This uncirculated bullion edition offers 0.1177 troy ounces of pure gold and measures 19.30 millimetres in diameter from milled edge to milled edge.
The Royal Mint authorised the production of some 250,000 gold bullion Half Sovereigns in 2012, though the number that were actually struck is unclear. A smaller number of 2012 gold proof Half Sovereigns were minted in the same year.
This pre-owned 2012 Half Sovereign is supplied in an appealing, pull-out presentation card, packed with information on the coin and fitted with a built-in protective capsule.
