The Bentley Collection Of Milled Sovereigns

Begun in 1978 and collected over 34 years, the Bentley Collection of British milled Sovereigns came to auction in 2012. The collection, consisting of over 1,200 coins, emphasised the finest condition and completeness, encompassing branch mint pieces, a near complete Victorian die number series, as well as supremely scarce pattern and proof pieces. Provenance traced to the Bentley collection is an assurance of exceptional quality.

Additional N Above Anno In Shield

This 1836 William IV gold Sovereign features an extra 'N' in the shield on the reverse, above the second 'N' in 'ANNO'. This error is rated R4 (previously R3) by Marsh in his guide to the gold Sovereign series. Since only 11-20 examples of this type are known to exist, this spectacular die error must have been quickly discovered. It remains among the rarest pieces in the William IV series.
